Post by Leonard Poxon »

Very cold east wind on the tops this morning.

Birds seen/heard: Willow Warbler - 12 singing males, 2 Chiffchaff, 1 Blackcap near the nursery school, Robin, Dunnock, Wren, 3 Canada Geese over, 2 Heron over, 2 Curlew seen, others heard, Chaffinch, Goldfinch, Lesser Redpoll, Song Thrush, Blackbird, Blue Tit, Great Tit, Coal Tit, plenty of Linnet with several singing males, lots of Meadow Pipit on the tops, 2 Kestrel, 1 Raven, 1 LBB Gull, several BH Gulls, Magpie, 2 Jay heard, Carrion Crow, at least 5 pairs of Nuthatch - 1 pair near the nursery and the rest at intervals along the Goit, Pheasant, Woodpigeon, 2 Stock Dove, Dipper, Mallard,
1 definite Ring Ouzel on top of the moors, and 2 possible Ring Ouzels at the top of the quarry on Stronstey Bank.

Also met and had a good chat with Gary Lilley - also on the look out for Ring Ouzels.

Mammals: 2 Roe Deer, Rabbits.

Ring Ouzel gives me 112 species.

On examination of the photos, the birds in the quarry proved to be Blackbirds, so only 1 Ring Ouzel seen this morning.
