Eccleston -Croston walk 18/07

Eccleston and Croston circular – Thursday 18th July
A walk from St Mary’s Eccleston along the Yarrow to Croston Corn Mill, then back to
Eccleston via Tincklers Lane fields. Meet on St Mary’s car park at 7.00 pm

14 members enjoyed the walk from Eccleston to Croston and back on a very pleasant evening, although there was a virtual absence of birdsong, at least until the end of the walk when one or two Song Thrush, Goldfinch, Yellowhammer and Reed Bunting broke the silence:-
Birds:- Canada Geese 11, Mallard 12, Pheasant, Kestrel, Oystercatcher 2, BH Gull, LBB Gull 30+, Woodpigeon, Magpie, Jackdaw, Rook, Crow (mixed flock of 200+ corvids), Swift, Swallow, House Martin, Sand Martin, Blue Tit, Great Tit, LT Tit, Nuthatch, Chiffchaff, Whitethroat, Robin, Wren, Blackbird, Song Thrush, Pied Wagtail, House Sparrow, Chaffinch, Greenfinch, Goldfinch, Reed Bunting, Yellowhammer
Butterflies:- Meadow Brown 2-5, Gatekeeper
Mammals:- Grey Squirrel, Brown Hare
Amphibian:- Common Frog

meadow vetchling,black medick,pineapple mayweed,yarrow,upright hedge parsley,self heal,knot weed,cleavers,large plantain,figwort,

ladies mantle,docks,scentless mayweed,hedge woundwort,gypsy wort,lesser spearwort,tufted vetch,meadowsweet,red shank

Insects included lots of Common Soldier Beetles, at least 2 Blue-tailed Damselflies and several moths including the Common Yellow Conch (Agapeta hamana) and the Brimstone Moth.
