Croston Moss

Post by Neil Southworth »

Drinkhouse / Carr Lane circular. Fairly quiet birdwise especially on the moss. Buzzards seen in two locations - 2 each time so might have included juveniles. 16 Lapwings were on a lettuce field and an Oystercatcher was heard but not seen. Still singing were Whitethroat 5, Yellowhammer 7 and Corn Bunting 4. At least 2 family parties of Pied Wagtail (5 in each case) were the only other birds on the fields. 7 juvenile Swallows were perched on telephone wires, and 3 or 4 House Martin were feeding over the village end of Drinkhouse Lane. A single Swift was also seen. Goldfinch and House Sparrow were numerous.
Butterflies:- Large White 20-50, GV White, Small Tortoiseshell 5-10, Painted Lady 10-20.
