Eyes Lane, Bretherton

Post by Neil Southworth »

It's amazing what a day's rain can do! From no water last week, it has flooded extensively this week. However, there was just one Shelduck and 6 Lapwing on the floods late morning. No doubt numbers will increase. At least 30 Whooper Swan were on the field across the river, plus c90 Mallard, a single Teal, 2 Goosander and 4 Moorhen on the river. There were also flocks of 200 or so Woodpigeon and Starling, c50 Carrion Crow, c30 Fieldfare, 2 or 3 Pied Wagtail and small numbers of Skylark, Meadow Pipit, Goldfinch, Linnet, Chaffinch and Yellowhammer. The only raptor was a Kestrel along the lane. A skein of 40 Pinkfeet flew over northwest.
