Fieldfare/Redwing

Post by peter rowlands »

Plenty of birds on Primrose Hill fields in Euxton today. The main show was around 20 plus Redwings and a fewer number of Fieldfare in the hedgerows. Lots of Gulls, mainly Herring Gulls and a lesser number of Black headed Gulls. A few Woodpigeons and Magpies also in the fields with Corvids and Starlings. 1 Mistle Thrush. Several Blackbirds. Chaffinches. Greenfinch. 1 Blue Tit. Goldfinches. 1 Grey Wagtail and several Pied Wagtails. A group of Pipit like birds flew through but couldn't make them out.

Thanks Len. A bit quieter this morning with only a hand full of Redwing and a couple of Fieldfare in the same area. The fields appear to be a good place for Wagtails and Gulls. Other birds seen; Goldfinch. Woodpigeons. Lots of Corvids. Starlings. Lots of finches flying around but couldn't make them out, to far. Several House Sparrows and two Common Buzzards flying low and close together. Quite a lot of activity along those fields at times from Primrose Hill school to Runshaw Hall Lane. So with living within a stones throw away my thoughts are to visit the fields on a more regular basis. You never know what might turn up.

Is that on the west side of the M6?

The M6 runs through the centre of the fields. I take the public footpath on the East side on Cedar Avenue off Runshaw Lane, cross the M6 onto the West side which comes out through a gate next to Euxton Villa on Runshaw Hall Lane.
