Neil, I mistakenly thought I'd seen Whoopers earlier in the year but looking through my diary I realize I hadn't so the Whoopers I saw flying over on the 24th bring my Chorley list to 96, maybe I'll reach 100 this year!

Chris,
151 species have been recorded so far. I'm on 129 which means I've missed 22. Of these, 6 are summer visitors / passage migrants so there's no chance with those. Another 12 are vagrants in the Chorley area so they are extremely unlikely. Two are residents, but one would require a visit to the moors, and the other (Lesser Pecker) is now so rare that it is extremely unlikely. The last two are essentially winter visitors / passage migrants - Jack Snipe and Black Redstart - so I will be lucky to see either of those.
There are still other possibilities (all rare) such as one of the divers, one of the rarer grebes, Smew, Barnacle Geese, White-fronted Geese, Iceland Gull, Glaucous Gull and Great Grey Shrike. All the stuff of dreams!
In short I'm not expecting to increase my score by more than one or two, and I don't suppose anyone else will either!

The final totals for 2014 as I know them are now listed. If anyone thinks their total is incorrect, please let me know so that it can be amended accordingly.
Congratulations to Len on his victory in a tight race.
