Croston/mawdesley moss 7.30/9.15am.

Lots of birds about this morning, covered a large area ( bit not all of it) birds spotted:- 500+ pinkfoot (2 groups at 7.30and9.15am) 8 mallard , flush 4 ducks off a pond at least one of the birds looked like a gadwall (white wing bars) , 5 snipe , 30 lapwing ,40+ grey partridge (3 coveys) 19 red legged partridge(2 coveys), 100+ meadowpipits, mixed flock 50+ linnet/greenfinch, 30+ skylark , 6 pied wagtail , 10 yellowhammer, 5 reed bunting ,10+ tree sparrow , 12 goldfinch , 100+ w/pigeon , 2 gspecker , 1 buzzard , 1 kestrel , small group of gulls on ploughed field , 4 cormorant .

Gary, re the Gadwall over the last couple of years I've had several sightings of Gadwall on the pond by the level crossing at Rufford which isn't that far from Mawdesley mosses, maybe they're spreading out from Mere Sands and Martin Mere?

I also spotted a male gadwall on the same pond several years ago John , ive no doubt it was the same bird.
