Top Lodge 19.09.11

This was on the Top Lodge about 8am this morning thought it was a snipe, would like an ID please.

That looks like a Water Rail.

Yes I agree with Len, it is a Water Rail - a pretty dishevelled looking specimen. Maybe a juvenile moulting into adult plumage? Why didn't you find it yesterday Carol when we were down there? :wink:
Whatever, a good find and an instant result from lowering the water level!

Good sighting Carol. Hope its still there in a couple of days. Cant get down at the moment.

No doubt you'll get a Snipe and have no problem with ID now.
