Frog Failure
This year the frogs returning to my garden pond spawned early and in larger than usual numbers. They hatches as normal but never advanced beyond the tail stage with only a few even developing rudimentary rear legs. They were in this state for the last five months and have disappeared from the pond when the latest spell of cooler weather came. Why have they failed to fully develop this year - is it due to the weather or are there other influences at play and has anyone else noticed a similar phenomenon with their spawn.?
Hi Graham,
Failure to develop properly is often due to there being insufficient nutrients in the pond (usually due to the pond not receiving enough sunlight). The following website is very good at answering all sorts of frog related questions.

When you get to the site, click on ADVISE and then FAQs and then frogs. If the answer isn't there you can email to ask.
