Painted Lady - invasion?

Post by Brian Derbyshire »

Been in the gardens all day (Hartwood) and either I've seen the same insect 6 or 7 times over the course of 7 hours or separate insects. Insects flew in - occasionally stopped on the Mock Orange and then headed off in strong flight out of sight. Maybe this blast of hot air from the Africa is pushing them north in larger numbers1

I've just returned from Northern France, Brian, and Painted Ladies were by far and away the most numerous butterflies there, so I suspect there is an invasion taking place.
