Obviously been a very popular venue this weekend as I had a walk there yesterday morning. I too saw the Kingfisher but couldn't even find 1 Little Grebe, let alone 2 as reportedly seen on Saturday. Didn't look at small lodge so missed the Shoveler! Being fungi recorder i was interested to see one of the wood carvings by the children's playground has a fine group of Brick Tuft fungi growing on it as well as Jelly Ears and Cramp Balls. I couldn't see any Collared Earthstars by the car park but I didn't actually go into the shrubbery. Has anyone seen these fungi this year?

Thanks Carol for your info re the Earthstars at Birkacre. There seems to have been two 'flushes' of fungi in general this year - end of August/beginning of September then they 'disappeared' probably due to very dry month of September only to re-appear mid October. Thankfully, as no severe frost yet this autumn, there are still some fungi around so reports of sightings welcomed!
