Great White Egret

Post by Neil Southworth »

While we were doing the duck count this morning, a couple of joggers told us that they had just seen a 'white heron' by the side of Anglezarke reservoir, but by the time we got to the spot, there was no sign. Then, lo and behold, Simon Warford and Andy Makin on Winter Hill saw a Great White Egret coming from the Belmont area and flying towards Wayoh.
Having checked with Simon, it seems possible that it had come from the Anglezarke direction, before going via Belmont towards Wayoh. It does seem to be resident in the West Pennine Moors with a preference for Wayoh, but with a chance of it turning up at any of the local reservoirs. Keep searching!

Nora, sorry but this was supposed to be a joke from Malaysia. It backfired when Neil rang my phone at 1 am in Kuala Lumpur ! I guess that I deserved that when the Challenge is at stake. I hope the bird turns up for the Chorley list.

It was apparently at Oswaldtwistle today. No accounting for taste!
