Ageing, sexing Mandarins?
I took a photo of 2 Mandarins yesterday, at first I thought they were 2 immature/juvenile males however as they are not classed as "wild" birds the only info I could get from my Bird Guide books was very limited so i tried Googling them only to be met with a bewildering array of photographs without any details of how to sex and age these birds. So what do you think are they immature males, females or even adult females?

Thanks Gary, that's what I entered them as on my birdtrack records, nice to have it confirmed though.

Thanks Andy, it does look like it has a tinge of pink to the bill, I could only see one today at the weir and it didn't stay still for long enough for me to get a photo.

I believe they do David, It's difficult getting any information on Mandarins as they're still looked on as an introduced species.
