Grape Lane/Twin Lakes Croston and Eyes Lane

Post by Paul Whittaker »

Added some garden birds this morning including Coal Tit on the feeders plus 8 Stock Dove and a Buzzard on North Park. Other birds in the area were Herring Gull, Robin, Magpie, Pheasant, Jackdaw, Crow, Wood Pigeon, Redwing, Mistle Thrush.
Walked along the river at Eyes Lane early afternoon. Very little was braving the high water except a small group of 8 mallard, crows, magpie, starling and black-headed gull. On the fields towards Bretherton were a Sparrowhawk, Kestrel, a flock of c.50 linnets and a single grey wagtail.
Heading home I nipped into Twin Lakes surprising a grey partridge in a ditch and then was surprised to see a juvenile Whooper Swan in the top corner of the lake closest the sewage works. Also, 4 wigeon, 6 gadwall, 7 tufted duck, 2 mute swans, 4 moorhen, 4 great crested grebes and lots of coot. Additions today bring my total up to 46.
