Although my interest is mainly birds, I was curious what this insect was which came into our house.

Hi Ivor - and welcome!

My guess is a Morning Glory Plume Moth - of some sort! - sure some of the more expert lepidopterists on here will give the definitive answer!!

Hi Brian,
Thanks for your reply and well done. Having now gone on Google images, I can see it's definitely a Plume Moth of some kind. My son Mike felt it was a moth, but I thought it was related to a Cranefly (Wrong as usual!). Sorry the photo wasn't a little sharper but I carefully carried it outside for better light and just had one shot at capturing it. Regards, Ivor

Your Moth is a Micro Moth,Latin name Amblyptilia acanthadactyla,common name Beautiful Plume.
