YV Park 19.6.13

Post by Neil Southworth »

The pair of Common Terns have one chick which looks about a week old. The GC Grebes still have the one young which is developing nicely. Also on Big Lodge were a Mallard with three chicks and one with 6 growing young. Still 3 or 4 juvenile Coot.
Also on Big Lodge was the male Mute Swan. No sign of the female so presumably the breeding attampt has been a failure. Anyone with more information?

I spent quite a bit of time looking, Aidan, and could only see one. I suppose the other could have been asleep, but the adults were bringing food in, so I'd be surprised if it was.

We spoke to John Bolton & Steve Jolley they told us that on inspecting the nest she was sitting on 7 eggs and they were going to leave them till John returned from holiday, we have only seen Billy the male on the top lodge since the reeds have have covered the nest site.

Also seen Mink and two young in the yarrow this last week
