New Registrations

Post by admin »

We have had to try to suspend new Forum registrations because of a sudden surge in stupid, time wasting spammers. Not sure yet whether this will work or not.

If you wish to register for the forum, then please use our website contacts page. If you are genuine, I will register you.

I know its a real shame isnt it, think there were about 50+ spam posts today, which I reported the authors, is there a Capatcha mod you could use, I use a mod on my forum called stopforumspam its a API http://www.stopforumspam.com/ which is a Capatcha and cross reference to their remote database, (its free) not sure if it works with phpBB but sure phpBB will have a Capatcha, only other way Ive talked to Neil about and is prob the simplest is to have Admin verification rather than email verification to access, its a sad situation hope we can find a solution, that at least cuts it down. one of the spam today was quite explicit.

dont really want to be a Mod but I can check most times a day and delete the idiots if I have permissions rather than keep having to report them

Just looking at my forum and StopForumSpam has stopped 264 bad sign ups today

We have re-opened the site for new registration with (hopefully) improved security. We shall see!
