Croston, E-shaped Pond. Friday 23rd March at 8.45am

Post by Paul Whittaker »

Have been out of the area for the last few days and am due to leave again tomorrow for a short holiday so I decided to have a walk around Croston this morning. I'm glad I did....

Having heard my first Chiffchaff last weekend it was good to hear 2 along Grape Lane with other woodland species in full song including Nuthatch and Greater Spotted Woodpecker.

At the E-shape again were a single Chiffchaff, 2 Tufted Duck and several Coot. My attention was drawn to an overflying raptor which approached from the SW. My first thoughts were Buzzard but it turned out to be an Osprey which flew over the pond slowly but continued in a NE direction.

On arriving home I added another year tick with 2 Red-legged Partridge at the bottom of my garden.

Chorley Year List now 88.
