Woodcock, Great Knowley 11.03.12

Post by Leonard Poxon »

I just heard a Woodcock over the former quarry area, my son heard one later on at night earlier in the last week.

In the Chorley Nats bird competition does hearing a bird call count, or is it bird 'sightings' only.

Birds are allowed on call or song only. After all the bird is there even if you don't see it. All I would say is that you must be 100% confident of your identification.

Are you entering the competition, Len?

I will give it a go.

My current Lancashire count is 91, but only 73 in the Chorley Nats Area.

That includes Mandarin Duck, but not Feral Pigeon.

Ok, I'll put you down for 74 on the assumption you've seen Feral Pigeon
