Late afternoon visit found the fields by Eyes Lane deserted. However, across the river in Lock Lane and just inside the area, there were large flocks of gulls, corvids, starlings, thrushes and woodpigeons, which were very unsettled, constantly taking off and circling around. The cause of their anxiety was possibly a large female Sparrowhawk, which even panicked the captive geese. The river was brimful after today's high tide. I watched a hovering Kestrel plunge down and take a small mammal to the consternation of a pair of Mallard nearby! Sightings:-

Grey Heron, Mallard, Moorhen, Pheasant, Kestrel 3 or 4 (inc birds near E-shaped and along Highfield Road), Sparrowhawk, Pheasant, BH Gull 100+, Woodpigeon 500+, GS Pecker, Pied Wagtail 30+, Fieldfare 100+, Redwing, Mistle Thrush, Blackbird, Jackdaw 100+, Rook 200+ (Highfield Road), Tree Sparrow 3 or 4

N.B. several mature trees have been chopped down in Lock Lane alongside the ditch.
