Highlight of two hours on the mosses this morning at least 4 bramblings feeding with large amounts of finches on the mawdesley side full list of birds:-
1 cormorant .
20 mallard .
20 teal.
1 little grebe , feeding on the douglas near the bridge.
2 kingfisher sightings , both on drainage ditches , most likely two different birds going off the distance between the two sightings.
At least 3 buzzards .
3 kestrels , one mobbing a buzzard , one carrying prey.
1 male sparrowhawk hunting merlin style low over a stubble field.
Witnessed a small raptor (merlin /sparrowhawk) from distance take a starling from a swirling flock , the bird came from underneath and cleanly took the unfortunate starling before dropping to the floor .
Around 2000 woodpigeon in the area.
Hundreds of linnet feeding on a set aside field on the mawdesley side also smaller numbers of chaffinch , brambling ( at least 4) , goldfinch , greenfinch and tree sparrows.
20 corn bunting and several yellowhammer feeding on a stubble field.
At least 20 reed bunting scattered around the area.
Around 20 skylark .
1 fem stonechat , on croston finney.
The brambling sightings bring my Chorley year list up to 133 species.

Gary,

Another milestone, well done. Have you any more common birds to find ?

One month to go and poor Nora is poorly.

Get well soon Nora.
