Croston Moss / Finney 4.11.12

Post by Neil Southworth »

The feeding station near the level crossing has been to a large extent dismantled. Just a pole with 4 or so hanging feeders remains. The reason was scurrying about on the track - up to 20 Brown Rat, most of them young animals!
Elsewhere there were lots of Fieldfare - ca200 in three flocks with a sprinkling of Redwing amongst them. Otherwise it was quiet with no large flocks of anything. A large skein of PF Geese was out over the Martin Mere area, well ouside our area. Full sightings:-
Canada Geese 20, Little Grebe, Moorhen, Cormorant, Grey Heron, Buzzard 2, Kestrel 3 or 4, Pheasant 6, RL Partridge 5, Lapwing 2, BH Gull 150, Woodpigeon, Skylark, Pied Wagtail, Fieldfare 200, Redwing 20, Mistle Thrush, Song Thrush, Blackbird, Robin, Wren, Dunnock, Blue Tit, Great Tit, Willow Tit 2, LT Tit, Jay, Magpie, Jackdaw, Crow, Rook, Starling 70, House Sparrow 12, Tree Sparrow 12, Chaffinch, Greenfinch, Goldfinch, Linnet, Bullfinch, Yellowhammer, Reed Bunting
Brown Rat 20
