The shooters were out at the flash this afternoon. Around seven guns and a similar number of beaters were concentrating on the marshy bit. It didn't cost them much in cartridges, though, because after one round of half a dozen shots, every bird within earshot had disappeared over the horizon, and what had looked promising when I arrived had suddenly become an avian vacuum. I don't know if they got anything - I didn't see their dogs retrieving anything. Between 8 and 10 Snipe were flying around, but I doubt if the shooters even saw them.
Before the shooting started there were:-
Canada Geese 40, Mallard 20, Teal 4, Sparrowhawk, and a large flock of corvids, starlings and possibly thrushes.
After the shooting I came across a couple of Buzzard perched on fence posts two or three fields away, 20 Goldfinch and 6 Fieldfare. One or two Jay and a GS Pecker were also heard across the canal. A Cormorant flew over.
