I,ve just been having a read of my copy of mitchells birds of lancashire ( second edition ) which i bought at the recent bird watching fair at martin mere , i was reading about the great grey shrike at the end of the page it informed of 2 sightings in the chorley area one shot at shaw hill chorley on march 20th,1880 and lord lilfords keeper shot one at bank hall , bretherton feb 11th , 1890 , its interesting looking back in history but sad to see that most of the rarer sightings were of birds which had been shot .
