Y.V.Park 10.11.11

Post by Neil Southworth »

A Buzzard flew low over Big Lodge, scattering all the gulls. The Cormorant remained perched on the tern raft whilst all around lost their cool. The Kingfisher was active on Top Lodge, but there was no sign of Snipe, Water Rail or Heron. The Dipper was on the river, downstream of the park. There weren't many woodland birds in evidence, although the noisy species such as Nuthatch and Jay made their presence known, and a Mistle Thrush rattled its way across a clearing.
Two fish were seen attempting to leap the weir - or perhaps one fish making two attempts. Has anyone ever seen a fish succeed?

Anybody ever looked at the Pincock fish ladder for fish jumping up stream, 500 yards down stream from Parking up at Pincock Brow.
You can autualy stand/sit next to the ladder and if any fish jump, should get a good look.
must be worth a look after the next down pour, or nect october.

Cheers Eddie

I've spent a lot of time off and on watching the fish ladder at Pincock and have never seen a thing.

However, last year, just upstream of Pincock weir, near the now disappearing Xelflex factory, there were plenty of fish visible in the water of all shapes and sizes. Also, large fish, about a foot long, are sometimes visible just upstream looking down off the A49 bridge over the river.

I haven't seen any fish in that general area this year although that may just be a case of not being in the right place at the right time.
