Around Chorley on 1st November

Post by Joyce Riley »

2 Red Admirals in my garden feeding on Ivy flowers today were my first November garden butterflies for over 5 years!

Birkacre this morning - ref other posting.
Astley Park this afternoon - on lake were 2 Mute Swans (appeared to be happy together!), about 50 Mallard, 7 Coot, 5 Moorhen, 1 Little Grebe, 120+ BH Gulls. No birds on the feeders in the Pets Corner that were provided by our society! but GS Woodpecker and Nuthatch heard in the woodland. Fungi included a group of Shaggy Scalycap and 2 Purple Brittlegills under Beech by the main drive, whilst under another Beech was a Beechwood Sickener (Russula nobilis = R. mairei) and Turkeytail on a stump by the lake.
