Tit-Willow, Tit-Willow, Tit-Willow...

Post by phil kirk »

... to quote Gilbert and Sullivan. I could sing it if you like.
First time we have had a Willow Tit in the garden since 1986!

Shutter Speed

Post by phil kirk »

Chris

I wondered what your comment was until I reviewed the details on the photo.
I don't know where that shutter speed came from at all. For your information I did use flash (2 on the bird and one for the background). I set the shutter speed manually to 1/400. My camera gives a sync speed of 1/250, but I find that you can get away with 1/400 but you lose a narrow strip of the frame at the lower edge - because the shutter isn't quite fully open at 1/400. Maybe it would have been at 1/394.

I wanted the shutter speed as short as possible to avoid ghosting on the flight shots I was attempting. I mistimed this one, which is why it is on the perch instead of in mid-air.
