Tentatively ID this as Clavulinopsis sp. possibly helvola or luteoalba from Roger Philips Mushrooms Book. Primrose Hill 16 Oct - just the one among grass, yarrow & cat's ear.

The grassy areas around the slippery log are also very good for another species: Clavulinopsis fusiformis - Golden Spindles, keep an eye out for plenty of groups of them popping up there soon.

We found them in 2008 & 09 but not last year. There are times we avoid the log as we are not as nimble these days, so we probably missed them. Will have a look this year.

Golden Spindle - Clavulinopsis fusiformis taken in August 2008 near slippery log.

The slippery log is only half the log it used to be. I think Golden Spindles put in an appearance last year, it's also a good area for Russulas and a couple of other species if I remember correctly.
