White Coppice 28.8.11

Post by Neil Southworth »

Just when I thought it couldn't get any quieter it did! Maybe the wind was keeping everything down, but there was barely a peep. Roll on post-moult! The wind at least suited the Kestrels, 4 of which were hovering over the quarry, and when the local Buzzard passed by, one of them was despatched to escort it away. Two or three juvenile Stonechats were flitting about in the bracken, but they weren't perching up as you would normally expect. A Dipper was on Dean Black Brook, but even that was skulking.
There were few insects around in the breezy conditions, but a Common Hawker and a Red Admiral did put in an appearance.
A few Fungi were on view including Penny Bun, Brown Roll Rim and Puff Ball, plus a few mycenae which I'm sending to Joyce for identification. :D
