Cuerden Valley Park 11.8.11

Post by Neil Southworth »

A drizzly evening meant that only 5 hardy souls turned up for what turned out to be an interesting walk, as most of us were visiting many parts of the park for the first time. The weather meant that there weren't many birds on view but for what it's worth the following were recorded:- Grey Heron, Canada Goose, Mallard, Coot, Moorhen, Buzzard, Tawny Owl calling, Woodpigeon, Swallow, House Martin, Blackbird, Robin, Blue Tit, Coal Tit, small flock of Long-tailed Tits, Goldcrest, Jay, Magpie and Crow.
Bat species detected were limited to single noctule and pipistrelle, although there was no enthusiasm at the end of a damp evening to hang around, let alone go back down to the river to look for Daubentons.
Many thanks to David Beattie for sharing his extensive knowledge of the park with us.
