Croston Moss / Finney 29.12.10

Post by Neil Southworth »

Late afternoon visits can sometimes be very productive, but I suppose today it was just average. A skein of 30 Pink-footed Geese was flying around, as if it had been feeding on the moss. A flock of around 35 Fieldfare was fairly mobile, flying from one location to another. Flocks of ca 250 Jackdaw and 100 Rooks were going to roost. There was no sign of the finch roost unless they had already settled down, and most disappointing no sign of Barn Owl - hope they've not fallen victim to the severe weather.
Other birds seen included Mallard, Moorhen, Pheasant, Kestrel, Sparrowhawk, Woodpigeon, GS Pecker, Blackbird, Robin, Wren, Blue and Great Tit, Magpie, Crow, Starling, House Sparrow, Chaffinch, Greenfinch, Goldfinch, Linnet, Bullfinch and Yellowhammer
