Tawny Owl rescue, Worthington Lakes

Post by Ian Woosey »

I posted this on the Manchester Birding forum this evening. I can`t actually work out which reservoir it is at Worthington - it could be on the Chorley side..

A news story in todays Wigan Evening Post (21/12) about a Tawny Owl entangled in a tree by discarded fishing line. The opening scenes to the linked YouTube clip are saddening, and dare I say it, a bit disturbing ? The bird was however released and taken into care. Well done those chaps who rescued it..

Ian,

On 15th December, Jimmy Meadows posted on the Worthington Lakes thread on the Manchester forum that he'd seen a 'dead' Tawny Owl hanging from a tree on the far side of Arley reservoir. Do you suppose this is the same bird, not dead after all, or are Tawny Owls a bit clumsy at Worthington?

Yes Neil, Jimmy has confirmed it was the same Owl; details are on the Manc forum. Everyone is just happy that the outcome was successful..

All the best,
Ian
