Chorley Waxwings

Post by Leonard Poxon »

There were 10 Waxwings adjacent the roundabout between Eaves Lane and Harpers Lane at 12:00hrs.

They were in a taller tree on Blackburn brow (10m away) then briefly fed on one of two small Rowan Trees immediately adjacent the roundabout before taking flight across the former Hygenic Laundry site.

Excellent pic, Leonard. Saw them in the same place earlier in the week.

Thanks Andy R and Dave. I have seen odd ones in that area over several years.

What happens to Waxwings when the Rowan berries are all gone. Do they turn to other berries such as hawthorn, or do they move out.

Berries

Post by Joyce Riley »

A few years ago Waxwings spent some time in the Eaves Green area feeding on all the cotoneaster and other berries along by the road. There are lots of berries there this year but so far no waxwings there.
