Red-breasted Merganser (redhead) still present near the castle. This appears to be the first record in the Rivington area for at least ten years, but I don't have annual reports prior to 1999.

Adult Mediterranean Gull (appears to be a different individual to last week) in the roost with c8000 Black-headed Gulls.

Also a pair of Gadwall last week on 11th December.

Steve and Manxies

Explanation of David's post for all readers not present at the meeting:

Steve (Stansfield) showed photos of Manxies (Manx Shearwaters) taken on Bardsey Island. Some were credited to Richard Else - and very good they were!

RBM records

Post by Joyce Riley »

I have looked up all the previous records the society has for Red-breasted Merganser. There have been a total of 12 records from 1977, on the reservoirs in the society's recording area which also includes Belmont and Roddlesworth reservoirs. The last was of 1 on Anglezarke Reservoir on 15 February 1998 and next last of 1 on Anglezarke on 10 July 1993. Last previous on LRR was 15 November 1989, so 20 years ago.
