Croston Moss 6.12.09

Post by Neil Southworth »

Late afternoon visit. I think most birds had gone to roost by the time I got there. A small skein of just seven Pink-footed Geese flew west towards Martin Mere. A flock of a dozen Fieldfare was heading towards a more local roost, as presumably were the two flocks of 12 and 18 ground skimming Starlings. In the distance large numbers of Jackdaws were calling from their roost. Not everything had settled down for the night though, as a male Kestrel flew low over the fields looking for supper, and just as I got back to the car, the night shift emerged in the form of a Barn Owl gliding silently through the gloom.
