eccleston syd brook unidentified waders

Post by gary lilley »

i was walking across a large field ( 5.00pm) today when i heard a strange bird call i immediatly look upwards i picked out a small wading type bird i soon spotted 2 more birds flying close to the calling bird they were flying quite high but i could pick up what looked like white bellies the call was between a whistle and a piping call given at short bursts ive never heard this call before the birds headed over the brook heading northwards my gut feeling was green sand piper but ive never heard them do this call , also present several redwing , 3 probable red legged partridge 2 teal few carrion crow plenty of woodpigeon on the acorns , the wading birds were heading in the direction of the river yarrow so maybe it would be worth a visit along the yarrow betweent eccleston and croston first thing in the morning.
