Fungi at W Coppice
Sorry I couldn't join you on Monday evening. You found some interesting species. Keep an eye open now that the cricket matches have finished for waxcaps on the cricket field (outfield area). The cricket field was declared as Lancashire's first Biological Heritage Site for FUNGI after I took one of LCC's ecologists to see the waxcaps a few years ago and we identified 11 different species of waxcaps plus several other grassland fungi.
Hi Joyce, unfortunately l couldn't give more notice as we only decided just before l posted on here.
No waxcaps on the cricket field but we have found some recently on the banking to the left of he lodge, where the cows are.
We were amazed as there were fungi everywhere, so didn't really walk very far. Fly agarics areespecially abundant this year, with groups of up to a dozen in places.
