White Coppice / Anglezarke 13.9.09

White Coppice area:- Large swarm of House Martin, probably 200+, hawking around the quarry and over the fields opposite, where there were also a few Swallow. Meadow Pipits were also passing through in small numbers, and a flock of 40+ Lesser Redpoll flew over. A minimum of 8, possibly more, Stonechat of various ages were flitting about in the bracken. Corvids were very much in evidence with 7 Magpie, 2 Jay, 4 Jackdaw and 6 Crow seen. A party of 3 Mistle Thrush were rattling about. Grey Wagtail and 5 Moorhen were also recorded.
Butterfly:- Speckled Wood
Anglezarke north end:- Definite autumnal feel to the wildfowl with GC Grebe, Wigeon 8, Teal 12, Pintail, Goosander 4, Mallard 20, Canada Goose, Cormorant, Lapwing 15, BH Gull 75, LBB Gull 30, Herring Gull. Also recorded were Sparrowhawk, Raven (3 over), Pied Wagtail, Nuthatch, Treecreeper, and several Goldfinch around the thistles.
Butterfies:- Speckled wood (several), Red Admiral 2

I saw two southern hawkers, a painted lady and a tortoiseshell by the cricket club last week.

This week I saw a stoat running across the road on my way home.
