Kath,
I have checked through all the recent Lancashire Bird Reports, and some for Greater Manchester, and there are no winter records of Willow Warbler. The most common wintering warbler is Blackcap, followed by Chiffchaff and just one or two records of Lesser Whitethroat.
Latest records in Autumn for Willow Warbler are usually early October, and first records in Spring are usually last week of March / first week of April.
Your bird, as Ian Ball suggests is most likely to be Chiffchaff.
Regards,
Neil
