Eyes Lane Bretherton 10.1.09

Post by Neil Southworth »

Nine members enjoyed (I think) the first field trip of the New Year despite the icy conditions. The temperatute at the start was -4C but at the finish had reached the dizzy heights of -1C. The weather itself was dry and bright with just the minor inconvenience of a chilly south easterly breeze.

As we gathered to set off, we were treated to the sight of several thousand Woodpigeon leaving their roost near Bank Hall.

Other sightings included:- Grey Heron 2, Cormorant 2, Goosander 2, Teal, several Mallard and Moorhen, Red-legged Partidge 12+, Snipe 2, Lapwing 30+, Kingfisher, Kestrel 2, Buzzard 1 or 2, BH Gull 20+, GBB Gull, Herring Gull, Skylark 60+, Meadow Pipit 20+, GS Pecker, several each of Redwing and Fieldfare, Song Thrush 2, Mistle Thrush, Nuthatch 3, Long-tailed Tit 6, 100+ Starling, several Tree Sparrow, Chaffinch, Goldfinch, Linnet, Yellowhammer 12, plus commoner species.

Mammals:- Grey Squirrel, Rabbit 2, Brown Hare
