A Whooper Swan found by ranger John Bolton at Yarrow Valley Park. The bird was standing on the ice, apparently to avoid the hostile approaches of the resident Mute Swan. Probably a first for the site, despite the large numbers which winter at Martin Mere

The Whooper Swan was still on Big Lodge at 4.10pm today. The resident Mute swan (Edward) didnt seem to be bothering it. Although he was swimming round with his feathers up. Be interesting to see if it is still there in the morning.
