yarrow valley park (birkacre) 27/12

Post by tony »

early morning, not much about of note but did notice the channel at the end of the big lodge where a kingfisher has just started sitting has hardly any water in it.
If the levels of water are controlled, why are they always being messed about with, the lodge surrounded by reeds was frozen over & the river flowing fast, so the channel is a good place for the kingfisher as it hardly ever freezes over completely.
SOMETIMES I WISH THE PEOPLE WHO MANAGE THESE PLACES WOULD JUST LEAVE THINGS ALONE

sometimes the water level on the big lodge has to be lowerered so that we can do repairs. At the moment we are repairing the old island. We do the repairs during the winter rather than spring/summer so that we do not disturb nesting birds.
The nature reserve level is dropped twice a year to try and attract passing waders.

whilst l do agree that repairs have to be carried out, l feel that purposefully dropping the water levels to attract passing waders, but at the same time disturbing resident species isn't right, l would prefer to let the water level change naturally.
But thats just my opinion, thanks for the reply. :?
