Grey Heron 2, Lapwing 40, Buzzard 1 or 2, Barn Owl 2, Grey Partridge 9, Black-headed Gull ca 50, Woodpigeon 12, mixed flock of ca 500 Fieldfare and Starling, Redwing 6, Mistle Thrush 3, Long-tailed Tit 11, Meadow Pipit, Yellowhammer and Corn Bunting. Finch roost of over 100 birds attended by a Buzzard.

Did you just start from Hanging Bridge and see all that in the 'square'?

There was shooting taking place on Croston Moss, which must have pushed the birds across the railway onto Croston Finney. In any case, I find late afternoon in winter a good time to visit, because birds are gathering in pre-roost flocks, and on a fine day there's always a good chance of Barn Owl hunting along the ditches.
