Cuerden Valley park - Whittle end

Post by Brian Derbyshire »

Quick hour down there 'on the way elsewhere!' saw:-
Mallard 12, Moorhen 4, Heron 1 and 1 Kingfisher on pond
Surrounding trees and bushes had several flocks of small birds including 9 L Redpoll, 7 Greenfinch, 23 Chaffinch, 2 Goldfinch, 1 Reed Bunting, 7 Redwing plus odd G and B Tit. Also every berried bush and tree was guarded by its own 'resident' male Blackbird.

Lots of Jackdaws overhead (200+) plus odd Rook and C Crow.

Hi Brian, re Kingfisher, do you mean the pond to the west of the cycle track or the Lodge to the east. There have been several sightings on the west pond, but none that I know on the east lodge

Hi David, I parked the car at Kem Mill Lane end and it is the largish pond on the right hand (east) side of the path, adjacent to the old ruins as you walk north towards Clayton- hope you can follow that?

Regards
Brian
