Hobbies and Kites!

Post by Neil Southworth »

Further sightings of Hobby and Red Kite in our area:-

Hobby again seen at White Coppice on 18th September, plus Wheatear and Peregrine. (Gary Gorman via Manchester Birding website)

Red Kite seen flying east over Rivington Village towards the Terraced Gardens (22nd Sept). The bird had a white tag on its left wing, which evidently means it hatched in the East Midlands (Rutland). Info from Chris and Tony Johnson.

Probable Hobby at Heskin

Post by phil kirk »

Last Friday evening at about 7.00pm Heskin, a falcon flew from a tree at the side of the road and flew along the road at a height of about 1-2 feet before swerving off into a farmyard. It was more slight than a kestrel and totally dark above . Certainly was not a kestrel and certainly was not a sparrowhawk. Too large for a merlin.

Probably a Hobby.
