Winter Thrushes.

Jack, forget about Scandinavia, try hilly farmland to the east of the A6 -Whittle, Wheelton, Brindle and Heapey towards the moors. After seeing your posting I went off to Houghton Bottoms and found some redwing with a flock of starling near Brindle, but no fieldfares.

i dont think its that good a winter for either of these, but in the past i have found that if you find a few berry trees together with a good crop of berries then there is a very good chance of all members of the thrush family. 2 years ago there were lots down Cuerden V.P.
Hope this helps

Winter Thrushes

Jack,

I know you occasionally visit the pools and fields behind Garth prison. Last year there were hundreds of Fieldfare and Redwings in that area. I've not been this year, but it's got to be worth a try.
