Four members spent an enjoyable and informative couple of hours with Ben Hargreaves of Lancashire Wildlife Trust searching for bees. We were hoping to find Bilberry bumblebee Bombus monticola in particular with others such as Heather colletes,Heather Mining Bee and Hill Cuckoo bee on the "want list". We were unlucky that the sun came out just as we were finishing.
We didn't see any of those on the list with Ben but later I saw a male Bombus rupestris (Hill CB) on a patch of creeping thistle. Photo on fence post.
We also saw white tailed, buff tailed and common carder bumblebee; speckled wood(2), peacock, gatekeeper(5+), meadow brown and small skipper butterflies; common blue and azure damselflies (10+); brown hawker and possibly emperor dragonfly; common green grasshopper and unidentified leafhoppers (100's)
Birds-buzzard (3); swallow 6+, house martin 6+, GSW
Many toadlets and toad tadpoles in larger pool at summit. Frog.
Fungi -I will let Len record.
