Birds seen/heard -
In former quarry/landfill area - at least 6 pairs of Reed Buntings, 2 Grasshopper Warblers seen another heard reeling, 1 pair of Sedge Warblers seen. I Common Whitethroat seen/heard.
On edge of Tanhouse Brook woods - 1 Willow warbler seen/heard, 1 Chiffchaff heard, 1 Blackcap heard, 2 Song Thrush singing.
Odonata - 1 Banded Demoiselle (m), 1 Blue Tailed Damselfly (f), 1 Common Darter (m).
Lepidoptera - Thousands of Narrow-bordered 5-Spot Burnet Moths, 2 Yellow Shell Moth, 1 Shaded broad-bar Moth, 2+ Ringlet Butterfly, 30+ Meadow Brown Butterfly, 4 Small Skipper Butterfly, 2 Large Skipper Butterfly, 5+ Small Tortoiseshell Butterfly, 1 Red Admiral Butterfly, 1 Golden-bloomed Longhorn Beetle, 2 7-spot Ladybird, 1 Dagger Fly, 20+ Grasshopper, 1 possible Holly Blue Butterfly in the garden.

The Great Knowley old quarry/houshold tip must surely be the next SSI site in Chorley. A great range of species

I don't think it would ever merit SSSI status, but it could be a possible Local Nature Reserve (LNR). It must contain thousands of voles and is a feeding station for Kestrel, Common Buzzard at least 2 species of owl and others. It had a Skylark earlier this year (previously 2 to 3 pairs) wintering Common Snipe and Jack Snipe etc.
