Yesterdays sightings

Housing estate/former quarry - Birds seen/heard - 4 Swift late afternoon, Cuckoo (silent) flushed on former quarry/landfill area around 7pm. 1 Grasshopper Warbler heard, 3 Reed Buntings, 2 Pheasant, 1 Kestrel, several Black headed Gull over, 3 Carrion Crow, 4+ Woodpigeon.

Tanhouse Brook valley & woods - 2 Blackcap, 2 Willow Warbler, 1 Garden Warbler, 2 Common Whitethroat, 1 Sedge Warbler, 1 Common Buzzard, 2 Magpie, 1 Jay, 3 Robin, 2 Wren, 1 Dunnock,

Report of around 10 Swifts on Stronstey Bank late afternoon.

Butterflies - 6-8 Orange Tip, 1 Small Tortoiseshell, 1 Large White.

Bees - Early, Common Carder, Red-tailed, Buff-tailed & White-tailed Bumblebees in and around the garden.

Flora - single Ragged Robin flower seen and numbers of Common Vetch in flower.

Odonata - 1 Large Red Damselfly 2 days ago and report of a Common Blue Damselfly in a Euxton garden today.

Mammals - evidence of Rabbit, Voles and Moles in Tanhouse Brook valley/wood; Red Fox seen at dusk hunting voles on former quarry.
