Early morning walk Brinscall-White Coppice

Post by Jed Kirkham »

Highlight was finding a Tree Pipit, heard singing as I approached the disused small quarries near the SE corner of the Heatherlea/Brinscall woods, from 0745hrs. It didn't sing often, elusive and well hidden amongst the top of trees near the former Marsden's Farm. Cuckoo (1) occasionally heard.

Counted 10 singing Song Thrush in the woods, probably an underestimate.

Garden Warbler still in the woods towards the western end, also heard the GW near the cricket pitch 0655hrs. But missed out on hearing the Grasshopper Warbler (GH). Several Linnets in White Coppice and on the walk up to Coppice Stile.

Pair of Curlew near Calico Hall - seem to be a reasonable number on the northern part of the moors, very vocal and a beautiful sound.
